If you haven’t heard of the D23 Expo, where have you been? It’s the biggest Disney convention around and shares all the latest info on upcoming films, parks, and news along with exclusive shows and panels.
So many exciting things about Disney parks were announced, including new lands and attractions.
Avengers Campus
New land, ‘Avengers Campus’ will be coming to both Disneyland California and Paris with MCU-themed attractions, restaurants, and shows, as well as exciting new chances to meet The Avengers themselves. Work to revamp Disneyland Paris’ Hotel New York has already begun, giving it a new Marvel theme with new art and themed suites for you to enjoy.
Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway
We’ve heard a little bit about this before, but D23 Expo confirmed a lot more for the future of the attraction. It’s set to open at Walt Disney World in 2020 and Disneyland in 2022. It’ll be the first ride-through attraction starring the mice and will take guests through the magic of Disney Channel’s Mickey Mouse cartoon shorts.
Zootopia at Shanghai Disney Resort
We heard more details about the new Zootopia land. It’s going to feature a major attraction combining storytelling with the latest technology. You’ll also find new dining options exclusive to the Zootopia land and all-new merchandise will be joining the park.
Wandering Oaken’s Sliding Sleigh
A new Frozen attraction is coming to Disneyland Hong Kong – a rollercoaster which takes you on a winding journey around the kingdom of Arandelle. Frozen Ever After will also be introduced to the park along with a range of other Frozen experiences.
Cirque de Soleil
A new Cirque de Soleil show will debut at Disney Springs in honour of Walt Disney. The circus worked with Walt Disney Imagineering and Walt Disney Animation Studios to create a wonderful story. It’s centred around the daughter of a Disney animator and they go on a magical journey through the world of animation. Previews are set to begin 20th March 2020 and the world premiere will go live on 17th April.
Epcot’s transformation
Epcot is going to be made up of four neighbourhoods – World Showcase, World Celebration, World Nature, and World Discovery. There will be all-new experiences and attractions that you won’t find anywhere else, such as:
At World Showcase…
A Mary Poppins themed attraction at the United Kingdom pavilion. Dick Van Dyke (who plays Burt) joined the announcement, saying: “What made it was ‘Uncle Walt’. Walt Disney was a creative genius who saw the world through a child’s eyes.”
Nighttime spectacular HarmonioUS. The show will follow Epcot Forever and will be the largest ever nighttime show created at any Disney park.
Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure. The new attraction will be coming to the France pavilion in summer 2020. It will be joined by La Creperie de Paris and a Beauty and the Beast sing-along.
Canada Far and Wide in Circle-Vision 360. It will debut in January with new scenes and a new story and can be found in the Canada pavilion.
Wondrous China. In the China pavilion, this will take guests on a 360-degree journey through China with absolutely seamless digital technology.
At World Celebration…
Spaceship Earth. While the iconic Spaceship Earth will remain, it will be brought to life with new scenes representing the universal nature of the human experience with a new guide and new narration.
Epcot Festivals. The signature festivals will now be held in a new pavilion with a three-level structure. It will overlook World Showcase and is set to be the perfect place to watch the nighttime spectacular.
Dreamer’s Point. Here, you’ll find gorgeous gardens, a wishing tree and an interactive fountain. A new statue paying respect to Walt will be there to greet you as Epcot was his dream.
At World Nature…
A Moana attraction. ‘Journey of Water’ allows guests who are visiting the neighbourhood to meet and play with magical, living waters with a mind of its own.
Awesome Planet. This new film showcases the beauty, diversity, and dynamic story of the planet. You’ll find it at The Land pavilion from January 2020.
At World Discovery…
Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind. The first-ever reverse launch into space will happen here with this Guardians of the Galaxy attraction. While it may not sound it at first, it’s set to be a family-friendly attraction!
Space 220. At this new restaurant, you’ll be able to experience daytime and nighttime views of the Earth while you’re enjoying your meal. It’s set to open this winter and sounds like one hell of a meal.
PLAY! Pavillion. This will be bursting with games and activities perfect for families to enjoy together. You’ll be able to interact with characters like never before, even joining a water balloon fight with Huey, Dewey, and Louie.
Disney Genie at Walt Disney World
Disney Genie is going to be your best friend when you’re planning your next trip. It will help the planning process go smoothly, changing the way you experience the parks. You can tell the Disney Genie what you want to experience, and it will come up with options for each day, or you can tell it what kind of person you are, and it can plan your day for you completely.
Star Wars Galactic Starcruiser
With the new Star Wars lands at both Disneyland and Walt Disney World, it’s no surprise there is more Star Wars news coming our way. At Walt Disney World, a new experience is coming – a two-day cruise on the Halycon. Live out your story alongside the crew, passengers, and characters while looking out the windows into space. It will include dining, a day on Batuu at Galaxy’s Edge, and special activities such as learning to use a lightsaber.
Keep an eye out for more D23 catch-ups, such as ‘everything we learnt about Marvel’, ‘everything we learnt about Star Wars’, and ‘everything we learnt about Disney+’.
Really excited for the Avengers Campus and Mary Poppins attraction!
