If you haven’t heard of the D23 Expo, where have you been? It’s the biggest Disney convention around and shares all the latest info on upcoming films, parks, and news along with exclusive shows and panels.
Disney+ is fast approaching and we learnt so much at D23 Expo about the service and everything coming soon! There’s new shows, new films, new info, and even the return of old shows!
The Mandalorian
Star Wars and Avengers come together to create The Mandalorian. It’s set after the fall of the Empire and the rise of the First Order. The Mandalorian comes to Disney+ on 12th November.
The Lady and the Tramp
A lot of old-school Disney films have been given a live-action remake recently, and Lady and the Tramp is next. The dogs used in the film are rescue dogs – one of the dogs even found their forever home through the film. The Lady and the Tramp comes to Disney+ on 12th November.
High School Musical: The Musical: The Series
This will not be a reboot or sequel to High School Musical, but a docu-style show which follows a new wave of characters at East High School, where they’re performing their own version of High School Musical. High School Musical: The Musical: The Series comes to Disney+ on 12th November.
The World According to Jeff Goldblum
In a new series for National Geographic, we get to see into the mind of Jeff Goldblum himself! The World According to Jeff Goldblum comes to Disney+ on 12th November.
Noelle
Anna Kendrick and Billy Eichner star in new holiday film, Noelle. Anna Kendrick said: “I’ve always wanted to be in a Christmas movie. My family and I have movies that we watch every year… The idea that I have the opportunity to be in a movie that families watch together this Christmas, and it becomes part of their tradition and they have favourite scenes and can’t wait to put it on is just amazing and I was so happy to have the opportunity.” Noelle comes to Disney+ on 12th November.
Encore!
Former castmates of high school musicals (not the Disney kind!) come together in a new series to let them recreate their last performance at high school. It will celebrate not only the theatre but real people and bring back many memories. Encore comes to Disney+ 12th November.
Forky Asks a Question
Forky is the brand new toy in Toy Story 4, and we absolutely adore him! Forky Asks a Question is a new shorts series in which he asks questions like “What is love?”, “What is time?”, even “What is cheese?”.
5 new MCU series
Marvel Studios announced 5 new series coming to the MCU. These include: What If..?, Winter Soldier and the Falcon, WandaVision, Ms Marvel, Moon Knight, and SheHulk, all coming to Disney+.
Lizzie McGuire
Yes, you read that right, LIZZIE MCGUIRE IS COMING BACK. Lizzie will still be played by Hilary Duff as she has grown up – older, wiser, and better than ever! She’s got her dream job, dream guy, and dream apartment. 30-year-old Lizzie is still dealing with the 13-year-old, animated Lizzie in her head – the icon of the show.
Muppets Now
The Muppets will also be returning to our screens in their first-ever unscripted short-form series. Imagine what Kermit and the gang could get up to!
Timmy Failure: Mistakes Were Made
Based on the book series by Stephan Pattis, Timmy Failure: Mistakes Were Made sees Timmy operate his own detective agency with the help of his 1,500-pound polar bear! Timmy Failure: Mistakes Were Made is coming to Disney+ in early 2020.
Diary of a Female President
This follows a 12-year-old girl’s journey through life and middle school as she sets the way to becoming president of the United States. It sounds quite similar to Princess Diaries if you ask me. Diary of a Female President is coming to Disney+ in January.
StarGirl
This is based on the bestselling, young adult novel by Jerry Spinelli. Starring Grace VanderWaal and Graham Verchere, it is a coming-of-age story.
Monsters at Work
Monsters at Work follows the new workings of Monsters Inc. now that Monstropolis is powered by laughter. You’ll meet a new cast of monsters, and Sulley and Mike will also be returning.
The Falcon and the Winter Soldier
Kevin Feige revealed that after their appearances in Avengers: Endgame, Falcon (Anthony Mackie) and the Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan) will team up. Emily VanCamp will return as Sharon Carter and for the first time, Wyatt Russell will be playing Marvel Comics character, John Walker.
WandaVision
Vision and Wanda Maximoff play two super-powered beings trying to live ideal suburban lives. Feige describes it as half classic sitcom and half epic MCU adventure. Actors Paul Bettany and Elizabeth Olsen made a surprise appearance at the Expo, joined by Kat Dennings and Randall Park, who will reprise their roles from Thor and Antman and the Wasp.
Loki
Tom Hiddleston returns in 2021 to play your favourite villain, Loki, in a series set after the events of Avengers: Endgame.
What If…?
Marvel’s new animated series ‘What If…?’ premieres in 2021 spotlighting different heroes from the MCU and reimagines what might have happened if things had turned out differently.
Star Wars: The Clone Wars
The animated series will return with 12 new episodes and the return of Anakin Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Captain Rex, and Ahsoka Tano.
We still don’t have an official release date for the UK, which we were hoping for from D23, so we’ll just have to wait, but it’s released in the US on 12th November.
