The first look at the live-action remake of Mulan is here.
Yesterday (July 7), Disney unveiled the official teaser and it’s safe to say that it looks sensational. Directed by Niki Caro, the film wil star Yifei Liu in the lead role and is the latest in a long line of Disney live-action remakes.
The teaser is a sweeping and dramatic affair which focuses on Hua Mulan, the daughter of a strict war veteran called Hua Zhou (Tzi Ma). When he’s recalled to the military service, she disguises herself as a man to take his place in the Imperial army. The movie also stars Donnie Yen as Commander Tung, Yoson An as Cheng Honghui, Jet Li as the Emperor and Gong Li, who plays Xianniang, a character not featured in the animated movie.
The trailer is missing her dragon companion Mushu, and none of the movie’s famous songs appear either (nor are they likely to in full format, unfortunately). Having said that, the trailer looks incredibly promising. Check it out below.
A new poster for the movie, which is due for release on March 27, 2020, was also unveiled.
The live-action remake of Mulan is based on the 1998 animated movie. It follows in the footsteps of recent Disney remakes including Beauty and the Beast, Dumbo, and Aladdin, in addition to forthcoming releases including The Lion King and The Little Mermaid.
Mulan will be released on March 27, 2020.
