Avengers: Endgame has made history during its opening weekend, shattering box office records worldwide.

With a global debut of $1.209 billion, the movie has become the first in history to surpass $1 billion in its opening weekend, achieving this sensational feat in just five days. Its predecessor, Avengers: Infinity War, previously held the record after reaching $1 billion in 11 days.

Avengers: Endgame is the eighth Marvel Studios offering to cross $1 billion, and the second to do so this year following on from Captain Marvel.

Earning an estimated $350 million domestically and $859 million internationally, Avengers: Endgame set new records for both. It also made a record $330.5 million during its opening weekend in China.

As the 22nd release in the Marvel superhero franchise, the movie has a 96 percent Certified Fresh RottenTomatoes score and A+ CinemaScore in the U.S.

“Kevin Feige and the Marvel Studios team have continued to challenge notions of what is possible at the movie theater both in terms of storytelling and at the box office,” said Alan Horn, chairman, The Walt Disney Studios.

“Though Endgame is far from an end for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, these first 22 films constitute a sprawling achievement, and this weekend’s monumental success is a testament to the world they’ve envisioned, the talent involved, and their collective passion, matched by the irrepressible enthusiasm of fans around the world.”
